Affordability and closeness to home makes Eastern Connecticut State University “the most appealing state school Connecticut has to offer” for many, offering opportunities to commute from home while being “not as expensive as other universities.” The “community service opportunities, clubs, and the general connection of the administration to the students” make the school feel welcoming for students,” while small classes sizes “gives the student the ability to get familiar with the professor as well as engage in class room discussions.” Professors can be “very inspiring” and “engaging because they seem to love what they are teaching,” though others “just teach at their own pace and go a little too fast sometimes.” While some students complain about educators who are are “just average,” others say the school is “devoted to helping each student succeed,” resulting in heretofore unseen levels of success. As one student tells it, “I struggled in high school due to lack of guidance services and I now have all A's because my professors answer all questions and are very knowledgeable.”

Student Body

Drawing students from throughout Connecticut means “there is no typical student; every person is different and unique in their own way, trying their best to do what they came to the university to dostudy, make friends, and prepare for the outside world.” If there is a typical student, they are “hardworking, consistent in their studies, outgoing with others, and involved with campus wide events.” Because of the school’s relatively small size, and because upwards of 40 percent of students commute to school, “you see someone you know every time you're on campus.” Those someones tend to be “smart and outgoing friendly,” a group who are “very welcoming and accepting of others.” Going to events around campus makes it easy to fit in here. “Little judgment is passed, especially regarding sexual orientation.”

Campus Life

Finding a life outside of your studies is “very easy” thanks to a broad array of university clubs. “Most activities except concerts are free to students so money is never a problem,” and the activities range from dance to music to sports. “Joining clubs makes it easier to enjoy the college experience,” students note, and Eastern students enjoy the opportunities these clubs afford them. “You are able to make many new friends and memories that will last you a lifetime. “ When not studying, playing sports, or debating politics with friends, don’t expect keggers to fill the free time. Students here say “these activities give students something to do rather than drink,” and that’s a good thing because “Eastern is a dry campus … we are not a party school.” No one seems to mind, not when “there's always trips and things to do.”
