Featured College Admissions Counselors
Julia M.
Education: B.S. Hospitality Administration, Cornell University
Ed.M. Higher Education, Harvard University Graduate School of Education
Certificate in College Counseling, University of California, Los Angeles
Admissions & College Counseling Experience: Admissions Assistant, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
College and Career Counselor, Public and Private High Schools in Los Angeles, CA
Background: Julia’s career spans years of college counseling in public and private schools, college admissions experience at MIT, extensive volunteer work with underserved students, and working as a college consultant for The Princeton Review. She has visited over 200 colleges and universities, counseled over 1,000 students on the college process, and taught classes in all aspects of college preparation to high school students and parents.
Why college admissions counseling? "I absolutely love teenagers! Yes, their parents may think I’m crazy, but I have a special connection with these young adults. I raised two teens of my own, so I know what it’s like to parent kids in this topsy-turvy time of their lives. I view myself as my students’ guide as they embark on the incredible adventure of college! Yes, it is an adventure, and I make sure to share this excitement with my teens. I think it helps to get them through the more stressful components of the college process. I am so proud and honored to be invited (virtually) into “my kids’” homes and lives. It’s a privilege that I never take for granted."
For fun: "When I lived in Los Angeles, I was an avid rock climber and distance ocean kayaker. The silence and beauty of the mountains and the ocean soothe my soul. Now that I’m in DC, my fun consists of touring this exciting city. The memorials fill me with pride and emotion for those who sacrificed their lives for our country. I love hanging out with my daughter Hannah, who lives nearby. I also enjoy reading while snuggling with my dog Leo (who has visited many of my college meetings!)."
Reena K.
Education: B.A. Anthropology, Brandeis University
M.A. Applied Psychology with a Counseling and Guidance Concentration, NYU Steinhardt School of Education
Admissions & College Counseling Experience: Brandeis University International Business School;
Columbia University/Barnard College/Jewish Theological Seminary Dual Degree Programs;
Rutgers University; The Pingry School College and Career Counselor
Background: Reena began her admissions career as a work-study student in college, where she loved her admissions experience and was great at connecting with students. After graduation, she stayed at Brandeis where she was first exposed to the field. From there, she consciously chose to work at different types of institutions so that she could give families as many different perspectives as possible. She has represented individual schools for more than a decade, and has served as Director of Admission twice, while also working one-on-one with students. Once she decided to work exclusively with students and families, she knew she had made the right choice, so that rather than presenting just one option, she could share a range of opportunities.
Why college admissions counseling? "Everyone always says, ‘If you had two students exactly the same…’ but no two students are ever the same. Students all have different perspectives and unique goals, and it is a privilege to share their journeys. And, there is nothing in the world like being the ‘first phone call’ when a student learns his or her application was accepted by a school."
For fun: "Eat! Inadvertently embarrass my twin teenagers. Binge watch Grey’s Anatomy. Travel."
Jasmine H.
Education: B.A. in English and Psychology, Amherst College
M.A. in International Education Management, Middlebury Institute of International Studies
Admissions & College Counseling Experience: Senior Assistant Dean of Admission, Amherst College
International College Counselor, The Princeton Review
College Counselor, Harkness Institute, Mexico
Background: "I’ve had the good fortune to work in both college admissions and college counseling with students from around the world. During my time in admissions, I covered regions both inside and outside of the United States and I’ve counseled students on the high school side in a similar capacity. I love getting to know students and hearing their ideas, their questions, and their pure brilliance as each navigates the process in their own unique way."
Why college admissions counseling? "The college search process is HARD. It’s stressful, it’s confusing, and it’s overwhelming. I enjoy supporting students throughout this journey and helping students and families make sense of what can be a complicated time. Thinking with students about the next step on their path is rewarding and exciting; it’s a privilege to share a portion of the process with them."
For fun: "Be outdoors! Especially running in the woods. Spend time with my family. Read. Cook. Enjoy food.1."

Why college admissions counseling? “Honestly, I love demystifying the college application process. Having worked on both the admissions and student life sides of higher education, I know firsthand how overwhelming it all can seem. But I believe it doesn't have to be that way. I enjoy helping students break down the process, find ways to make it less stressful, and even discover some enjoyment in the process of self-reflection.”
For fun: I'm a big fan of audiobooks and love to listen to them whenever I can. I also enjoy spending time with my daughter, baking is probably our favorite activity. When I'm not in the kitchen with a small human or listening to audiobooks, you can probably find me out exploring Los Angeles with family and friends.”
